Who is the Desktop Support Specialist?


The Desktop Support Specialist is a part of a dedicated team that supports our staff locally and in remote offices. This role provides basic technical support and is the first line of support for all employee helpdesk requests. You are familiar with both Macs and PCs and able to provide basic setup and support functions on both platforms.


In this role, you can expect to:

  • Provide user assistance for general application software functions, working onsite daily in our Louisville office.
  • Perform troubleshooting to determine the source of errors limited to basic diagnosis isolating hardware and software problems.
  • Connect and power up computers and peripherals, and install and configure operating system software, including basic configuring of local area network settings.
  • Install required application programs/software, and provide limited user training, including instruction on accessing agency email when away from the office.
  • Install and maintain current virus/spybot/firewall protection.
  • Provide training in use of general hardware and software functions.

What do You Need?


  • 2+ years of desktop support experience with experience troubleshooting desktop/email issues. Equivalent education/certification is acceptable.
  • Excellent communication and customer skills in a variety of settings email, telephone, videoconference, face-to-face.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and experience in both Apple/MAC and PC support.
  • Ability to set up email on laptop, desktop, Outlook and smart devices.
  • Organization skills and the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability and experience maintaining accountability with limited supervision.
